Volleyball seen as key to physical and mental fitness for kids

Phoenix S.C.

Phoenix Sports Club (PSC), one of Malta’s largest sports clubs, is currently undertaking a drive to get more girls interested in the Olympic sport of volleyball and to encourage them to join its nursery. Apart from teaching children the fundamental skills of volleyball, the PSC volleyball nursery provides girls between the age of 10 and 16 with an opportunity to improve their mental and physical fitness as well as develop communication and leadership skills.

“Our mission is to teach young people those skills which will help them become competitive volleyball players with a solid foundation for success in volleyball and a healthy lifestyle” says PSC President Orlando Bonnici.

Over the past two years, the Club has been investing heavily in its volleyball nursery. This drive has led to the Phoenix U-14s and U-16s achieving second place in their respective categories during the past season. The focus of the Phoenix nursery, however, remains the development of the individual player: “What is important is that whether a player is with us for six months or for years, they will leave with a firm grasp of the skills needed to pursue volleyball at competitive levels”, concludes Mr Bonnici.

Those interested in trying out this Olympic sport in a fun environment are kindly asked to contact Mr Orlando Bonnici on 7944 9359 or send an email to orlando@psc.com.mt. Phoenix Sports Club also has teams participating in national handball, basketball and swimming competitions, and recently launched a waterpolo nursery.
