Phoenix S.C. supports volleyball at school
In line with this objective, Phoenix recently donated volleyball equipment, including a net and balls, to St Joseph School in Blata l-Bajda. The donation is aimed at supporting the teaching of volleyball at this school, which has been running after-school sessions for girls interested in this sport for a number of years.
“Our mission is to teach young people those skills which will help them become competitive volleyball players with a solid foundation for success in volleyball and in life” says PSC President Orlando Bonnici. The senior school headmistress at St. Joseph School Blata l-Bajda, Ms Roberta Mifsud Bonnici, stated that the organisation of after-school sessions in various sports disciplines “underlines the importance which the school has been giving to sports and the values associated with a healthy lifestyle”.
Over the past two years, the Club, which also has teams participating in national handball, basketball and swimming competitions, has been investing heavily in its volleyball teams, including its nursery which caters for girls aged 9 to 16 years. This drive has led to Phoenix Melita Unipol winning the volleyball Second Division title in its first year in existence, while the Phoenix U-14s and U-16s achieved second place in their respective categories.
